My wife purchased a 2003 Honda Accord from Air Force Auto Sales Feb2017. We were happy with the car and paid in full to include the 12 month warranty. The next day, I noticed that the passenger side mirror had black electrical tape covering a damaged portion. The tape was neatly cut to match the shape of mirror and blended in with the color tooprobably why I didnt see the damage before buying. I immediately drove the car back to AFAS and spoke with the salesman who helped with the purchase the day before. I showed him the mirror and asked him if they frequently sold cars with tape repair jobs. He whole heartedly agreed that was not their policy and said he would order a replacement part, to be installed when my wife brought the car in for the first monthly warranty check; I deployed for the next six months. For the next four monthly check ups, a AFAS member would tell my wife that the part was still on order or they were still working on getting it in somehow. By the fifth month, she confronted the same salesman who sold us the car and he said, I have no idea what youre talking about. Upon returning from my deployment, I could not find the original salesman. The manager on duty told me Whoever made the repair agreement with you, thats between you and him. Obviously Im still sore about our purchase experience with AFAS. I would strongly advise servicemembers to only use them as a last resort, avoid any handshake/word of mouth agreements no matter how friendly the salesman is, and check the vehicle with a fine tooth comb before writing a cheque. On our 2nd attempt at buying a vehicle, we found them to be honest, friendly, and thorough. Do you pay more that you would privately? Yes, but you have the backing of a dealer that stands behind their cars and provides a warranty on their used vehicles. I would buy from them again.
